Pip Value Calculator

The pip value calculator tells you the dollar value of one pip movement for any forex currency pair and lot size. Knowing your pip value is essential for accurate position sizing and risk management — it lets you calculate exactly how many pips you can afford to lose per trade given your account risk budget.

Note: Pip values use indicative rates and are approximate. Actual values vary with live exchange rates.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1

    Select your currency pair

Choose from 15+ major and cross currency pairs. The pip size (0.0001 or 0.01 for JPY pairs) is automatically set.

  2. 2

    Enter your lot size

Standard lot = 1.0, mini lot = 0.1, micro lot = 0.01. You can enter any fractional lot size.

  3. 3

    Read your pip value

The result shows the value of one pip movement in USD. Use this in the Lot Size Calculator to size positions correctly.

Formula

Pip Value (USD quote pairs) = Lot Size × 100,000 × Pip Size
  e.g. EUR/USD: 1 lot × 100,000 × 0.0001 = $10 per pip

Pip Value (USD base pairs like USD/JPY):
  = (Lot Size × 100,000 × Pip Size) ÷ Exchange Rate
  e.g. at 150.00: (1 × 100,000 × 0.01) ÷ 150 = $6.67 per pip

For currency pairs where USD is the quote currency (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, etc.), pip value in USD is straightforward. For pairs where USD is the base currency (USD/JPY, USD/CAD), you divide by the current exchange rate. For cross pairs (EUR/GBP), you convert via the USD rate of the quote currency. This calculator uses indicative rates — actual pip values shift with real-time exchange rates.

Worked Example

Pair: EUR/USD Lot size: 0.5 (mini lots) = 50,000 units Pip size: 0.0001 Pip Value = 50,000 × 0.0001 = $5.00 per pip If your stop loss is 20 pips away, your dollar risk per trade is: 20 pips × $5.00 = $100.00 On a $10,000 account with 1% risk ($100), this is the correct lot size to risk exactly $100.
