DCA Calculator

The DCA (dollar cost averaging) calculator shows the total value, coins or shares accumulated, average cost basis, and overall ROI when you invest a fixed amount at regular intervals. DCA removes the need to time the market — by investing consistently, you automatically buy more when prices are low and less when prices are high, potentially lowering your average cost over time.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1

  2. 2

    Choose your frequency

Weekly or monthly — the calculator adjusts the number of purchases accordingly.

  3. 3

    Set the number of periods

Total number of investments you have made or plan to make.

  4. 4

    Enter start and end prices

The price at your first purchase and the current/final price. The calculator assumes linear price change between the two.

See total invested, coins accumulated, average cost basis, current portfolio value, and ROI.

Formula

Total Invested = Investment × Number of Periods

Coins per period = Investment ÷ Price at that period
Total Coins = Sum of all coins purchased

Average Cost Basis = Total Invested ÷ Total Coins
Current Value = Total Coins × Current Price
ROI % = (Current Value − Total Invested) ÷ Total Invested × 100

Each period, you buy coins at the prevailing price. The calculator interpolates price linearly between your start and end price. Your average cost basis is the weighted average price you paid, naturally lower than the simple average of start and end prices when prices fell and recovered.

Worked Example

Investing $200/month for 24 months Starting price: $20,000 | Ending price: $45,000 (Linear interpolation over 24 months) Total invested: $200 × 24 = $4,800 Total BTC accumulated: ~0.185 BTC Average cost basis: ~$25,950 Current value: 0.185 × $45,000 ≈ $8,325 Profit: $8,325 − $4,800 = $3,525 (+73.4%) DCA allowed buying more BTC when prices were lower, resulting in an average cost below the ending price.
