Formula
Buy Cost = Buy Price × Amount
Sell Value = Sell Price × Amount
Gross Profit = Sell Value − Buy Cost
Total Fees = (Buy Cost + Sell Value) × Fee %
Net Profit = Gross Profit − Total Fees
ROI % = Net Profit ÷ Buy Cost × 100Fees are charged on both sides of the trade. The buy fee is applied to your purchase cost, and the sell fee is applied to your sale proceeds. Subtracting both from your gross profit gives your true net gain. Many platforms also charge withdrawal fees — add those separately for a complete picture.
Worked Example
Buy price: $30,000 (BTC) Sell price: $45,000 Amount: 0.5 BTC Exchange fee: 0.1% per side Buy cost = 0.5 × $30,000 = $15,000 Sell value = 0.5 × $45,000 = $22,500 Buy fee = $15,000 × 0.001 = $15 Sell fee = $22,500 × 0.001 = $22.50 Total fees = $37.50 Gross profit = $22,500 − $15,000 = $7,500 Net profit = $7,500 − $37.50 = $7,462.50 ROI = $7,462.50 ÷ $15,000 × 100 = 49.75%
